Brits abroad – the women

By Duncan Ogilvie

Sarah McKay – Cadi Le Seu (L.F.1 Spain)
Playing in just her fourth game of the year after coming back from injury. Sarah helped her team to a very important victory over fourth placed RC Celta from Vigo, North west spain. Cadi Le Seu ran out of Vigo with a 63-69 victory against a young but talented team. Sarah might feel the need to question the coaches motives as she played all her 8 minutes in the first half contributing four points and, two rebounds and an assist, for a five valuation.
With Sarah having only signed till the Christmas break, I feel the coach perhaps is holding her back a little to make it easier (cheaper) for them to re-sign her in the new year. It is clear from her two previous games that she is deserving of more court time. Hopefully the coach will give her this when the team travel to Madrid to take on Estudinates this Saturday (19th). It is a very important game as both teams have a 2-9 record.
N.B. there is talk that no games will take place this weekend in LF due to all teams bar Ros Caseras going on strike over the decision by the FEB to only have 4 teams in the copa de reina instead of the usual 8.

Kim Butler – Panionios Greek A1
Panionios picked up its fifth win of the season with a home win over Faliro 63-54. Kim hit 12 points while grabbing 13 rebounds playing all 40 minutes. She also added two assists and as many steals, but had a disappointing six turnovers. Panionios are currently fifth in the league and will face fourth placed Liosia on Sunday at noon in there final game before the Christmas break.

Mary Durojaye – Robert Morris University NCAA 1
The Robert Morris University women’s basketball team put a scare into Big East member Marquette, but ultimately could not overtake the Golden Eagles in a 67-59 loss at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Colonials had their three-game win streak snapped and sit at 5-3 on the season while the Golden Eagles improve to 7-3. Mary was 1 rebound short of a double double with 10 points and 9 boards, going 5/6 from the fields in 37 minutes. In her second game of the week, Mary and RMU women’s basketball team finished a two-game Wisconsin road-swing with a 62-46 loss at the University of Wisconsin Tuesday night. The Colonials fall to 5-4 on the season while the Badgers improve to 10-2. Mary had a disappointing night with just 6 points and 2 rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
Having spoke with Mary this past week she gave me her thoughts of the current season: “The season is going much better than last year, I am rebounding very well, and I’m playing a lot a minutes. I will be working on being more offensive minded”
RMU will take on Morehead Atate on the 20th Dec, before an eight-day Christmas break.
