Veteran small forward Dusan Kecman has been approached by fellow Greek team Panellinios who want to end his nightmare in Panathinaikos where he has seen limited court time and managed just 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game this season, just about missing out on playing a big role in Euroleague glory as well as Cup and what now looks to be play-off success.
32 year old Kecman, a former star with Partizan Belgrade in his native country brings some much needed experience to a youthful Serbia team at EuroBasket and will line up against GB possibly having left one part of Athens for another.

Serbian youngster Novica Velickovic, recently crowned the Rising Star of Euroleague for 2008/09 has added to the current ‘cold war’ between Greek giants Olympiakos and Panathinaikos as both teams are reportedly looking to land the Partizan forward.
Despite his young age, he finished the season as the top scorer for Partizan with 11.5 points per game and 5.1 rebounds. One of the most highly rated players in Europe, he is one of several key Serbian players that will line up against GB in Warsaw.
His class and talent underlined with what promises to be a spectacular tug of war for his services by the Greek powerhouses.

Slovenian forward Bostjan Nachjbar is one of the players being spoken about in the same breath of a Slovenian ‘Dream Team’ at Eurobasket 2009 this summer and GB certainly have their hands full in their group.
Nachbar will be a big danger along with a host of other Slovenian stars and the player is on the move and rumoured to be after a move back to the NBA after quitting Russian club Dynamo Moscow who have hit financial trouble (along with most Russian clubs including CSKA who have just announced 30% budget cuts for 2009/10).
That has fired up Nachbar to possibly use EuroBasket 2009 to showcase his abilities and he will be looking to have a major tournament come September.

Europe is currently rife with speculation that GB star Pops Mensah-Bonsu will sign a two year deal with legendary Maccabi Tel Aviv who want him to spearhead their Euroleague charge next season.
Maccabi could lose home sensation Lior Eliyahu and need a stellar name in the forward spot with Mensah-Bonsu topping their list.
However quite whether the player himself would want to give up on an NBA dream he realised, albeit briefly to head back to Europe is another thing altogether.

Had his best game of the season last night, and has almost clinched Aris a place next season’s Euroleague. Great Stats from Betts, went 7-7 from the field with 9 boards, in 29mins! There is no reason why he shouldn’t be there next season, and hopefully showing his class in the best club competition in the world outside the NBA.

Fantastic individual performances by both Joel Freeland and Robert Archibald in the final match-up of their head to head showdown in the ACB quarter finals in Spain. In the deciding leg of the three game series, both players finished with the highest valuation of their respective teams while Archibald had the added satisfaction of progressing to the semi-finals.
After two close encounters, an overtime win by Granca in Malaga and then Carlos Cabezas squaring the series during the week in Gran Canaria, Unicaja steamrollered a tired looking Granca 88-57. Archibald was back to his best after two poor games hitting a valuation score of 20 after 16 points and 7 rebounds in just 18 minutes.
Freeland meanwhile played the same number of minutes and had 12 points and 6 rebounds as the visitors felt the wrath of Malaga and the strain of going to the Martin Carpena without talisman and top scorer Carl English who was injured.
The end of a great season for Freeland, still way short of NBA standard but well on his way while the big Scot moves to the semis and an intriguing clash with Regal Barcelona and a potential adversary at EuroBasket – centre Fran Vazquez.

In just five years time, Great Britain’s post Olympic London 2012 era wil be well underway and one of the first possible landmarks and date in the diary could yet be a first ever appearance in the FIBA World Championships.
While that may seem unlikely at this stage due to the fierce competition for the European slots at the event, with GB Basketball having exploded and with plenty of talent and the right people at the helm a date in Spain is far from impossible.
Also exciting is to think about the players who will be wearing the vest at this time and for the answer to that how about GB go along the Balkan route and get some U16′s and U18′s into the first team training camp now on selected days?
The country has been handed the event after winning the vote to stage the 2014 Championships, and will be looking to replicate the success of EuroBasket 2007.
